About Mushrooms San Diego
A local news and reference site about psilocybin mushrooms, the law and mushroom safety in San Diego County. Here's who runs it, and how it's connected to a psilocybin retailer.
What we cover
Search for mushrooms in San Diego and most of what comes back is a seller's page, a directory listing for a seller, a law-firm post written for the whole state, or a news story from 2023 that nobody updated. Mushrooms San Diego exists to be the page you'd want open in the other tab: what the law says right now, what's actually inside the products sold around town, what the research found, and how to stay safe, including in a county where death caps now grow.
We publish two kinds of pages:
- Guides on the questions San Diegans actually ask: whether mushrooms are legal here, what local "dispensaries" and smoke-shop gummies really sell, legal therapy options, UC San Diego's research, and wild mushrooms in the county.
- News on bills in Sacramento, decisions at the FDA, county health alerts and local cases, sourced to primary documents wherever we can get them.
Our guides and news stories link factual claims to numbered sources at the bottom of the page, and every guide shows the date it was last checked. How we choose sources and fix mistakes is in our editorial policy.
Ownership and disclosure
Mushrooms San Diego is owned and run by the same people who run My Mushroom Dispensary, an online psilocybin mushroom retailer. A few of our pages mention or link to it, and we label those mentions where they appear. You should know about that connection when you weigh anything we write.
We try to keep that connection from shaping what we report, and here's how. Our legal pages describe the law as written, including the parts that cut against buying, selling or carrying psilocybin, which in California is a crime. Our research pages report what studies found, including results that didn't beat placebo. We don't rank or review retailers, we don't sell advertising, and nobody pays to be mentioned.
Who writes it
Pages are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools, checked against their sources before they're published, and appear under the byline "Mushrooms San Diego editors." Our editorial policy explains how. We aren't doctors or lawyers, and we don't present ourselves as either. When a question needs one, we say so and point to the primary source or a qualified service.
What this site isn't
- Not legal advice. For your own situation, talk to a California-licensed attorney.
- Not medical advice. We don't publish dosing instructions, schedules or preparation methods. For support during or after a difficult experience, Fireside Project runs a peer support line, and our safety guide covers interactions and warning signs.
- Not a store. We don't sell anything, we don't rank or review retailers, and we don't publish locations of wild psilocybin mushrooms.
The site is written for adults 21 and over.
